I had the privilege of working under Stuart as my Area Director. We hit it off straight away, and it soon become clear we both had a love of football - Stuart of course Luton, and me Crystal Palace. We used to chat regular about football and indeed I set up a win double of Palace and Luton which I said would pay for us to have a nice lunch when he was well and we could travel again after COVID. Last season we earned nothing! Then 2nd weekend Luton won and the Palace went and won at Man Utd at 10/1 - that made him so happy! We had gathered £80 and I longed to be able to come and see him and Elaine and spend it together - instead I have donated it to the hospice - but for old times sake will keep the double going to the end of the season. Stuart was always positive and we became even closer when he confided in me about his illness. Each week we would text each other and count down the number of treatments before they were completed. You knew that even if he was in real pain which he often was, he remained upbeat and positive about getting better and coming to Selhurst with me for a Palace game in the Premier League. It's very rare to meet someone who had nothing but good to say, helped build my business, and made me realise the strength of a good family behind you. Our text exchanges were often fun at a time when Stuart could have easily hidden away. That was not the man I grew to knew and no words now can describe I am sure how Elaine and the family are feeling. All I know is, that Stuart made a real difference to many of us who worked under his leadership, and for me I have lost a true and genuine friend - a genuine good guy taken from us far too early - Stuart RIP my friend and I will think of you every Saturday when our teams play.....Top bloke and so sad as I know how hard you fought to get better. Elaine - thank you for making me so welcome when I came to see you and Stuart when we were allowed out. My thoughts are with you and your Daughter - take care. My whole family knew about Stuart, so Diane, Mark, Ian and Claire (The Brooke Family) send their condolences.
